Doing our bit to help communities help themselves

As at times we like to hand something back and do our bit to ease the suffering of others, IRIS has sent an Irish dairy cow to a village in Africa!  An Irish dairy cow produces 20 times more milk than a conventional cow and can help to sustain many families by providing them with the vital milk they need. We have sent the cow via www.bothar.ie

Maybe we can inspire others to do the same!

IRIS is leading a European-Latin American consortium in the preparation of a second stage bid under the European Commission’s FP7 in the Thematic Area of NMP.2011.2.3-1 Advanced packaging materials from renewable biogenic resources. We will be submitting the second stage bid in April 2011, as one of 8 proposals that was selected to go forward to a second stage evaluation under this topic.

IRIS invests in laboratory infrastructure in the Parc Mediterrani de la Tecnologia

At the end of January 2011, IRIS completed construction work of its 280 m2 laboratory and workshop facilities in the Geomatics Institute building at the Parc Mediterrani de la Tecnologia, where they are based. With this new investment, IRIS now equipped with an additional engineering workshop, a food testing laboratory, as well as an optics lab. IRIS also refurbished its existing telecommunications workshop. In addition, the company has made considerable investments in engineering and research staff, bringing the staff count to 26. The company has underwent considerable growth since its foundation in 2007, and 2011 looks set to continue this trayectory.

IRIS leads the only successfuly Spanish led bid submitted to the 2010 Intelligent Energy Europe call

IRIS is the coordinator of the GERONIMO II- BIOGAS project that was submitted to the 2010 IEE call. IRIS will lead a consortium of 13 partners, representing 11 European regions in a 30 month initiative to working closely with the European pig and dairy farming sectors in the implementation of biogas projects. The benefits for the effective management of manure wastes and the production of renewable energy will have a very positive impact for the regions involved.

IRIS to attend the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco from March 28th- 31st

From 27 March to 3 April 2011, as part of a Technological Mission being organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Barcelona, the Smart Systems group at IRIS will travel to Silicon Valley to meet with companies, and they will also attend the Expo Web 2.0 that will be held in San Francisco from March 28th- 31st.
