Jana Kubincová from the Comenius University in Bratislava was at IRIS´offices on Thursday 2 June, to review some of the recent work performed by the Experimental Physics department using plasma on different applications such as the surface modification of various classes of materials, especially polymers, but also the sanitising effect on selected goods, such as seeds.

Plasma is the fourth state of the matter, it is made of ionized gas and can be obtained using various devices in different conditions of temperature and pressure. The active species formed can generate a wide range of effects. Thus plasma treatments have been used for years in a diversity of fields both at the academic and industrial level.

The talk was part of a new initiative, talks@iris, which aims to celebrate and highlight the knowledge base that the company is closely linked with.  The talks will facilitate knowledge transfer between industry professionals.  In the upcoming months, we will have guest speakers from wide ranging industries, such as food science, ecomaterials, optics, IT and the environment.

If you are interested in hearing about our next talk, please contact us on info@iris.cat.
