IRIS featured in the Catalan Television (TV3), under “El Medi Ambient” programme of Jan 9th, which was dedicated to microalgae and its potential for the future.
IRIS is leading the Olipha project and is also involved in MAR3, both in the field of microalgae. Olipha project coordinator Dr. Elodie Bugnicourt, from IRIS, highlighted the potential of the microalgae for the production of sustainable bioplastics. Regarding the work carried out in the OLIPHA project, referring to the currently available PHA, she said that ”it competes with food supply so we want to use a more sustainable source and we believe we can also improve the cost effectiveness of this polymer which is more expensive than synthetic polymers today”.
