What’s so smart about a smart system anyway?
Smart objects are small computers with a sensor or actuator and a communication device, embedded in objects, such as devices industry machinery
Smart objects enable a wide range of applications in areas such as home automation, building automation, factory monitoring, smart cities, structural health management systems, smart grid and energy management, and transportation
Until recently, smart objects were realized with limited communication capabilities, such as RFID tags. However, the new generation of devices has bi-directional wireless communication and sensors that provide real-time data such as temperature, pressure, vibrations, and energy measurement
Areas of Expertise

Our smartsystems guys have the knowledge and capacity to design autonomous smart devices that communicate wirelessly over hybrid and ad-hoc mesh networks working in synergy to improve the competitiveness of industry, as well as the quality of our lives. We have developed smart field irrigation systems, smart monitoring and control systems for composters; we are even building smart systems for European paddy fields
Research Areas
- Improve decision making
- Automate and optimise processes and operations- with systems that even have the ability to learn from their environment
- Reduce human intervention
- Lower costs
- Increase productivity
- Increase profitability
