Expertise and innovations in eco-materials to revolutionise the face of the packaging and plastics sectors

With depleting petroleum resources, and  increased legislative, consumer and market pressures calling for more sustainable solutions, plastics and packaging companies face significant challenges to research more environmentally friendly materials and develop eco-friendly products.

IRIS sees these challenges as a major opportunity and as such is working closely with plastics and polymer companies, with food and costmetics packaging producers and users in order to arrive at materials and packaging solutions that offer greater biodegradability, compostability and recyclability, and that make use of waste products and by-products as novel raw materials and bioplastics. We work with partners from the research community to ensure that these new materials do not compromise on mechanical performance and barrier properties.

To date, IRIS has been the key motor behind such innovations as the use of whey by-products as a packaging material to replace co-polymers and heighten the recyclability of multilayer sheets. Here, we bring a transversal approach that marries our agro-food expertise with that of plastics and polymers.
