In the field of process engineering, IRIS intends to develop new disinfection and treatment processes based on advanced physical treatments, including high power ultrasounds, plasma, and combined UV/ozonization processes. Furthermore, IRIS aims at exploring other innovative applications of these technologies for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of various industrial processes.

On the other hand, IRIS aims at researching and developing new engineering solutions for process monitoring applications, mainly within the agro-food industry, based on wireless distributed contactless sensors. Special emphasis will be given to the combination of chemical and physical analytical tools (laser spectroscopy, magnetic inductive scanning, and contactless temperature sensors).
